Power BI Report Narrative and Insight Summary for Executives
Write the story that goes with a dashboard.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Write an executive summary for a Power BI report. The numbers on the report (key figures, trends, comparisons): [REPORT_NUMBERS]. Context (targets, events, changes): [CONTEXT]. Audience and decisions: [AUDIENCE_AND_DECISIONS]. Produce a headline that is a statement that could be wrong, such as 'Sales fell 4 percent in the north' rather than a topic; three findings with the number and comparison for each and a one-sentence slide-ready version, each with one possible explanation labelled a hypothesis; risks; recommended actions with owners left as placeholders; and the questions the numbers cannot answer. Calculate any differences and percentages with the arithmetic, and add a table of the figures used with the source visual for each so a reader can verify them. Under 250 words, plus a one-sentence version, a text box version for the report, and an email version. Add data caveats (refresh date, definitions, anything unusual such as a partial month), three questions leaders will probably ask with short answers, and a list of statements to check with the data owner before the meeting. Do not claim causes the data cannot support.
