Keep replies to 1 to 4 sentences and wait after each question. Start by arriving and greeting me. When I type DEBRIEF, or after 25 questions, stop and review my transcript: 1. Count of open versus closed questions, and how many were leading or double-barreled, each quoted with a neutral rewrite. 2. Missed follow-ups: quote the participant's cue and the probe I should have used. 3. Pacing: any silence I cut short, any interruption. 4. Scores from 1 to 5 for neutrality, curiosity, and structure, each with a one-line reason. 5. Five improved questions for this topic, and a practice plan for my next session in three bullets.
