Airtable Base Design From a Spreadsheet
Convert a messy spreadsheet into linked tables.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Help me turn a spreadsheet into an Airtable base. What the spreadsheet tracks: [SPREADSHEET_PURPOSE]. Column headings and a few example rows: [COLUMNS_AND_ROWS]. Who uses it and what they need to see: [USERS_AND_NEEDS]. Problems with it now: [PROBLEMS]. Propose the tables, the fields for each with field types (single line text, long text, single select, multiple select, linked record, date, number, currency, checkbox, attachment, formula, rollup, lookup, count), and the links between tables. Explain which repeated information should become a separate table, for example Customers and Orders, and which should stay a field. Give the primary field for each table, a naming convention, and example records from my rows. Describe the import: clean the sheet first, import each table separately, set field types, then create links by matching names or IDs [VERIFY current import options]. Add a data-quality checklist before import (duplicates, blanks, date formats, inconsistent spelling). Propose views: grid by status, kanban, calendar, and a form for new records. Keep the base as small as will do the job, state assumptions, and ask for any missing rows that would change the design.
