Romance Arc Beat Sheet
Plan emotional beats for a romantic storyline.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Plan the romantic arc for my story. Two leads with wants and wounds: [LEADS]. Why they should not be together: [OBSTACLES]. Heat level and tone: [HEAT_TONE]. Create a beat sheet with: meeting, first spark, forced proximity, growing trust, first vulnerability, deepening, midpoint turn, external pressure, dark moment caused by their flaws, grand gesture or change, and resolution. For each beat give a scene idea tied to the characters' wounds and a small moment of dialogue subtext. Ensure both leads change. Include consent and respect as part of the dynamics. Avoid cliché misunderstandings as the only cause of conflict by offering alternatives. Provide a table of what each lead gives up. Add a section on subplots that support the romance, such as friends, family, or work, and on keeping both characters active in the plot beyond the relationship. Provide a list of ways to create tension without distrust or deception, and a checklist for the happily-ever-after or happy-for-now ending that the genre expects, if I choose that.

1 Meeting: Ana (a surveyor) and Ben (a farmer) argue about a boundary line. 2 First spark: he drives her through floodwater without a word; she notices his hands shake. 3 Forced proximity: a week of storm repairs at the same farmhouse. 4 Vulnerability: she admits she has never had a home longer than a year. 5 Midpoint: they agree the survey must be redone; the argument becomes a plan. 6 Dark moment: her firm sells the report to a developer; his flaw, silence, stops him asking her to stay. 7 Change: she refuses the promotion; he speaks first. Each gives up: Ana, mobility; Ben, control of his land's story.
