Google Sheets Dashboard With Sparklines and Conditional Formatting
Build a compact one-page dashboard.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Design a dashboard in Google Sheets. Metrics and where the data is: [METRICS_AND_DATA]. Audience and how often it is viewed: [AUDIENCE]. Thresholds for good, warning and bad: [THRESHOLDS]. Describe the layout as a grid: headline numbers at the top, trend sparklines, a small table, and one or two charts. Give the formula for each headline number, the sparkline formulas (SPARKLINE with options) [VERIFY syntax], and the conditional formatting rules as a table with rule text, custom formula and colour. Worked example with invented numbers: a metric of 92 against a target of 100 is 92 percent attainment and a warning state if the rule is warning below 95 percent. Do not rely on colour alone; add symbols or text such as Up and Down. Explain how to freeze the header, hide helper sheets and set up a view-only share. Add a monthly check comparing dashboard totals with the source. Keep the dashboard to one screen, and say which metric to drop first if there is too much to show. Write the legend text for the colours and symbols, and say who owns the thresholds and how often they are reviewed.

Invented metric: monthly sign-ups, target 500. Values for six months: 410, 430, 455, 480, 470, 520. Latest 520 against target 500 is 104 percent. Sparkline of the six values shows an upward trend with a dip in May. Conditional formatting rules: green with the text 'On target' at 100 percent or more; amber with 'Close' from 90 to 99.9 percent; red with 'Behind' below 90 percent. Latest status: green, On target. Month-on-month change: (520 - 470) / 470 = 10.6 percent. A note under the chart states the data date and the source sheet.
