Scene Goal and Conflict Checker
Diagnose a scene that feels flat.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Diagnose a flat scene. Paste the scene: [SCENE_TEXT]. What the scene needs to accomplish in the story: [SCENE_FUNCTION]. Characters present: [CHARACTERS]. Analyse the scene against these questions and answer each in one or two sentences with quotes from the text: whose scene is it; what do they want right now; what stands in their way; what do they do; what changes by the end; what is the emotional turn; what does the reader learn. Rate each from 1 to 5. Identify the three weakest points and propose specific changes for each, with sample lines. Suggest where to enter the scene later and leave earlier. Offer a one-paragraph summary of what a stronger version would look like without rewriting the whole scene. Add a short exercise that rewrites the opening paragraph of my scene so that the character's goal is visible within three sentences, and a list of three conflict types (person, circumstance, self) with a suggestion for which would work best here. Close with a one-line statement of the scene's purpose that I can pin above my desk.
