Guide me through writing flash fiction under [WORD_LIMIT] words. Theme or image to start from: [PROMPT]. Genre or mood: [MOOD].

Walk me through steps: pick one character, one want, one obstacle, and one change; choose the strongest opening image; set a first-line goal; plan the three-beat shape (disruption, escalation, turn); choose an ending that implies more than it states. After I answer each step, give me feedback in one sentence. When the plan is ready, write a first draft within the word limit, then list five cuts that would improve it and apply them in a second draft. Show word counts for both drafts. End with three variations of the final line and what each changes.

Add a final self-edit checklist of seven items, including checking that the title does work, that the first line makes a promise, and that the last line changes the meaning of something earlier. Offer a suggestion for places to submit flash fiction in general terms, advising me to check each venue's guidelines, and a method for tracking submissions.

Plan (300 words)
Character: Nadia, night-shift baker. Want: finish the wedding cake before dawn. Obstacle: the oven fails at 3 a.m. Change: she lets the groom's grandmother finish it by hand.
Opening line options: "The oven died at three, politely, like a guest leaving early." / "By three the flour had stopped being white."
Beats: disruption (oven dies), escalation (calls fail, ice melts), turn (a customer's grandmother appears, knows sugar work), ending image (sunrise on a lopsided, perfect cake).
Draft 1: 340 words. Five cuts: backstory paragraph, two adverbs, the phone call, a simile, the narrator's moral.
Draft 2: 298 words.

Illustrative only, made-up data. Your results will differ and must be reviewed.
