Resume Skills Section Decision Tree
Organize skills so they help rather than clutter.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Help me design the skills section of my resume with a decision tree. Target role: [TARGET_ROLE]. Posting requirements: [POSTING_REQUIREMENTS]. All the skills I could list: [MY_SKILLS]. For each skill, evidence of use: [SKILL_EVIDENCE]. For each skill, follow the tree: 1. Does the posting or the role need it? IF no THEN consider cutting, unless it is distinctive and relevant. 2. Can I show it in my experience bullets? IF yes THEN keep the skill in the bullet; list it in the skills section only if it is a keyword the role expects. 3. Is it a soft skill (communication, teamwork)? IF yes THEN prove it in bullets rather than listing it. 4. Is it basic (word processing, email)? IF yes THEN cut. 5. Is it outdated, or something I cannot discuss in depth? IF yes THEN cut. 6. Do I have a level (expert, proficient, familiar)? State it only where it adds meaning, and avoid star ratings or progress bars. Return the final grouped skills section (for example Languages, Tools, Methods, Certifications), a table of skills removed with the reason, and the three skills I should learn next for this role with the fastest proof method. Never list a skill I cannot back up.
