Power BI Slicer and Filter Interaction Audit
Check how slicers, page filters and visual interactions in a Power BI report change numbers, to find confusing or misleading filter behaviour.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
Please help me audit the filters and slicers in a Power BI report page, because users sometimes see totals that seem wrong. Mark every statement about Power BI behaviour [VERIFY]. Inputs: a list of visuals on the page with what they show [VISUAL_LIST], the slicers and what field each uses [SLICER_LIST], filters at visual, page and report levels [FILTER_LEVELS], any visual interaction changes, such as a slicer that does not affect a chart [INTERACTION_SETTINGS], and the totals users complained about with the values they expected [COMPLAINT_EXAMPLES]. Produce: (1) an interaction matrix with slicers as rows and visuals as columns, with cells saying Filters, Does not filter, or Unknown; (2) a table of filter layers with columns Level, Field, Condition, Hidden from user?, Effect on which visuals; (3) potential causes for each complaint, ranked, with how to check each in a few steps; (4) reader-clarity problems: slicers with no label, defaults hiding data, hidden page-level filters that are not disclosed, and slicers with hundreds of choices; (5) a design standard: always show active filters in text, place slicers consistently, add a reset option and a one-line note about default filters; (6) a short test script to run before publishing, with 6 checks and expected results to fill in. Guardrails: do not guess the cause without evidence; give hypotheses. Do not alter the report. If I give no data about a setting, list it as a thing to check. Use plain language for non-experts. Add a worked example with invented figures: a card shows 2,400 for the year but the table shows 1,950 for the same year. Show the 450 gap, 18.8 percent, and three possible filter causes.
