Press Release With Verified Facts Only
Write a clear news release from supplied facts, with a fact-check list.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[ADD SOURCE] [VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
Write a press release. Organisation: [ORGANISATION]. News: [NEWS_ANNOUNCEMENT]. Date and location: [DATE_AND_LOCATION]. Facts and figures I can verify: [VERIFIED_FACTS]. Quote from a named person: [QUOTE_AND_SPEAKER]. Contact: [CONTACT_DETAILS]. Structure: headline under 12 words; a lead paragraph answering who, what, when, where and why in two sentences; a second paragraph with the most important detail; the quote exactly as supplied; background in one paragraph; a boilerplate; and contact details. Keep it to 350 words, in the third person. Do not add statistics, superlatives such as leading or first, or claims about competitors unless I supplied them. After the release, list every factual claim with the source I must confirm [ADD SOURCE], and flag anything legally sensitive for review [VERIFY]. Check each sentence against three questions: is it a fact, is it from my list, and is it newsworthy to an outsider? Remove any sentence that fails the first two, and mark any that fail the third as optional. Provide a second, shorter version of 150 words for sending in the body of an email, and a one-line summary for social media. Remind me to date the release, include the words for immediate release only when true, and keep a copy of the version sent. Add a short note on what to do after sending: who answers calls, how quickly, what to say if a journalist asks something outside the release, and how to log each contact. Add a list of three questions a journalist is likely to ask and a short, truthful answer outline for each, based only on the facts I provided. Mark any answer that depends on information I have not given as a question for me. Finally, give me a plain-language note on timing: the best day to send, when to follow up, and when to stop. Treat any claim about being first, largest or only as unverified until I supply proof.
