Build a workbook that computes inventory turnover and classifies items with ABC analysis. Business: [BUSINESS_TYPE]. Data columns I have: [DATA_COLUMNS]. Spreadsheet app: [SPREADSHEET_APP]. Period: [PERIOD]. Use this worked example as the pattern. Item A: annual cost of goods sold 60,000; average inventory value 10,000. Turnover = 60,000 / 10,000 = 6 times a year; days of inventory = 365 / 6 = 61 days. ABC classification: sort items by annual usage value (units sold times unit cost) from highest to lowest; compute each item's share of the total and the cumulative share; class A is the items that make up the first 80 percent of value, B the next 15 percent, C the last 5 percent (thresholds adjustable). Typically a small share of items falls in class A. Design: a data tab, a calculation tab with formulas for annual usage value, share, cumulative share, class (using a lookup or IF rule), turnover, and days of inventory; a summary table showing number of items and value by class; a chart (Pareto); and a recommendations column by class (tight control and frequent reviews for A, standard for B, simple rules for C), with flags for slow movers and stockouts. Include 15 sample items with expected results to test the formulas and a quarterly review routine. Discuss when ABC fails (seasonal items, new products).

Worked results (fictional, 15 items, abridged) Item | Annual usage value | Share | Cumulative | Class SKU-04 | 48,000 | 32% | 32% | A SKU-11 | 36,000 | 24% | 56% | A SKU-02 | 27,000 | 18% | 74% | A SKU-07 | 9,000 | 6% | 80% | A SKU-09 | 7,500 | 5% | 85% | B Turnover for SKU-04 = cost of goods sold 48,000 / average inventory 8,000 = 6 times a year; days of inventory = 365 / 6 = 61. Summary: 4 items (27%) make up 80% of value (class A); slow movers flagged: SKU-13 with 410 days of stock. Recommendation: count class A monthly, B quarterly, C twice a year.
