Conditional Formatting by Formula: Highlight Rows That Match
Create conditional formatting formulas to highlight entire rows, overdue dates and duplicates, with rule setup steps for Excel or Google Sheets.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
I need custom formula rules for conditional formatting. My app is [SPREADSHEET_APP] and my version is [APP_VERSION]. The data range is [DATA_RANGE] and its headers are [COLUMN_HEADERS]. The highlights I want: [DESIRED_HIGHLIGHTS], with colours [COLOUR_PREFERENCES]. For each highlight, give me a card with these parts: the plain-English rule, the exact formula to paste (written for the first data row, with correct absolute and relative references), the range the rule applies to, a one-line explanation of why the dollar signs are where they are, and the menu steps to create it ([VERIFY] menu names for my version). Cover at least these patterns where they apply to my data: highlight an entire row when one cell meets a condition; highlight dates that are past due or due within 7 days; highlight duplicates in one column; highlight rows where two columns disagree; alternate row banding; highlight the maximum or minimum in a column. Then add a section titled "Rules that fight each other": explain rule order, Stop If True (Excel), and how to avoid overlapping rules, with a table of Rule, Priority, Applies to. Check each formula against my headers and say if any rule depends on a column I did not list. Do not use scripts or macros. If two requested highlights would conflict, tell me and propose a choice. Add a worked example with invented figures: tasks in rows 2 to 50, status in column D, due date in column E, with rule formulas.

Invented example Rule 1: highlight the whole row red when the task is overdue and not done. Applies to: =$A$2:$F$50 Formula: =AND($E2<TODAY(), $D2<>"Done") Why the dollars: column letters are locked ($E, $D) so every cell in the row looks at the same columns, but the row number is relative so each row checks itself. Rule 2: highlight amber when due within 7 days. Formula: =AND($E2>=TODAY(), $E2<=TODAY()+7, $D2<>"Done") Put Rule 1 above Rule 2 so red wins. [VERIFY] the menu names in your version.
