Plan PivotTable summaries from this data. Column headings and ten sample rows: [SAMPLE_ROWS]. The questions I want answered, for example total by month, count by region, average by product: [QUESTIONS]. Columns with mixed types or blanks I know about: [DATA_ISSUES].

First check the data is suitable: one header row, no blank rows or columns, no merged cells, one type of data per column, and real dates. Convert the range to a table so the pivot grows with new rows [VERIFY]. For each question give the fields for Rows, Columns, Values and Filters, the summary function (sum, count or average) and why, number formats, sorting, and date grouping by month and year [VERIFY]. Use only the columns I list.

Then give cross-checks: the grand total must equal the sum of the source column, a count must equal the number of rows, and one figure should be recomputed by hand with a filter on the source. No pivot is trusted until its grand total matches the source; show the matching arithmetic. Output a table with Question, Pivot layout, Function and Cross-check, then the steps in order and the commonest mistakes (text numbers counted instead of summed, blanks, forgetting to refresh after changing data).

Invented data: 240 order rows with Date, Region, Product, Amount. Question: total by month. Layout: Rows = Date grouped by month, Values = Sum of Amount. Question: orders by region. Layout: Rows = Region, Values = Count of Order ID. Cross-checks: pivot grand total 18,000.00 equals the sum of the Amount column; count of orders 240 equals the number of data rows; March total 4,200.00 matches a filtered sum on the source. If the grand total were 17,350.00, look for amounts stored as text (650.00 missing).
