Azure DevOps Test Plan Outline for a Release
Plan test suites, cases and exit criteria.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
Outline a test plan for the release: [RELEASE_DESCRIPTION]. Features: [FEATURES]. Risks: [RISKS]. Environments and test data: [ENVIRONMENTS]. People testing: [TESTERS]. Release date: [RELEASE_DATE]. Describe the test suites, number of cases by priority, and a risk-based order of testing so the riskiest areas come first. Add a table linking features to risks and the suites covering them. Estimate effort with visible assumptions, for example 120 cases at 6 minutes each is 720 minutes, or 12 hours of execution before retests, and split it among testers with a schedule counted back from the release date. Define entry criteria (build deployed, test data ready), exit criteria (no open severity 1 or 2 defects, an agreed pass rate), and what happens if exit criteria are not met by the release date: the options and who decides. Describe how defects are logged and triaged, state what is out of scope, mark Test Plans features [VERIFY], and add a test summary template to fill in at the end. Do not guarantee quality; list the remaining risks after testing.

Invented plan: 120 cases, 6 minutes each = 720 minutes = 12 hours. Two testers at 5 hours per day each = 10 hours per day, so execution takes 1.2 days; allow 2 days with retests. Release on the 20th, so testing starts by the 16th, leaving the 17th to 19th for fixes. Check: with a release on the 20th, starting on the 16th gives four calendar days of which two are used for execution, leaving two for fixes and retests. If one tester is absent, capacity halves to 5 hours a day and execution takes 2.4 days, so the plan has no slack; the risk is flagged to the release manager. Exit rule: no open severity 1 or 2 defects.
