Spike and Research Task Design
Time-box uncertain work.

Design a spike, a time-boxed investigation. The uncertainty or question: [QUESTION]. Why it blocks planning: [BLOCKER]. Team and time available: [TEAM_AND_TIME]. Write a spike card with: the question to answer; context; the time box in hours or days, with reasoning; approach options; the deliverable (a decision, a recommendation, a prototype, or a documented finding); acceptance criteria such as "we know whether A or B is feasible and can estimate the follow-up work within a range"; out of scope; people to consult; and how the result will change the plan. Then add: rules (stop at the time box and report even if incomplete, record what was learned, convert findings into stories); a findings-summary template; signs that a spike is hiding real work; and two examples with different question types, one fully filled in for a payment provider's reliability, with its time box, deliverable, the decision it enables, and how the result is shared with the whole team.
