Write variance commentary. Budget and actual figures by line for the period: [BUDGET_VS_ACTUAL]. What I know about causes: [KNOWN_CAUSES]. The audience: [AUDIENCE]. Compute for each line: variance in currency, variance as a percent of budget, and whether it is favorable or unfavorable (higher revenue is favorable; higher cost is unfavorable). Show the arithmetic. Then identify the lines whose variance exceeds 10 percent or a materiality amount I set: [MATERIALITY]. For each material line, write two sentences: what changed and the likely reason, labeled "confirmed" if I provided the cause or "to check" if it is an inference, plus one action. Summarize in a 100-word headline paragraph that begins with the overall result. Add a table of questions to ask the budget holders. Never present guesses as facts. Include a note on timing differences (a bill paid early) versus real differences. Limit the commentary to the five largest variances by amount, each in at most two sentences, and order them by size. If a variance is below the materiality threshold but unusual in direction, list it separately under 'worth a glance'. Remember that all outputs are estimates calculated from my inputs alone and not from outside data. This exercise gives no accounting, tax, legal or investment advice. Have the output reviewed by a financial professional who knows [JURISDICTION], such as an accountant, before using it.
