Tableau Dashboard Layout, Actions and Filters Design
Design an interactive dashboard that guides the user.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
Design a Tableau dashboard. Questions the audience asks: [QUESTIONS]. Data fields and sheets available: [SHEETS_AND_FIELDS]. Device and size: [DEVICE_AND_SIZE]. Users and their experience: [USERS]. Each view needs a title stating what it shows, and no decorative charts. Specify the layout using containers with approximate shares of width and height: title and a one-sentence instruction, KPIs, the main view, supporting views and filters. Give each sheet its chart type, fields, sort and colour. Define interactions in an actions table: filter actions, highlight actions, URL actions if needed, parameter controls, tooltips written as sentences, how a user moves from overview to detail, what happens when they reset, and the empty state when a filter returns no data. Limit filters and colours. List the three likeliest user mistakes, such as forgetting to clear a filter, and how the design prevents or reveals them. Describe the first screen and the next step a user takes. Device layouts if required [VERIFY options]. Accessibility: contrast, text size, tooltips not carrying essential information, alt text where supported [VERIFY]. Test script with five user tasks and expected clicks.

Invented dashboard for regional sales. Layout: title and one-line instruction; four KPI tiles (sales, orders, average order value, growth); a map of regions; a bar chart of top products; a trend line. Actions: selecting a region on the map filters the bar chart and trend; selecting a product highlights it in the trend. Filters: date range and channel, shown on the left. Reset: a 'Show all' button. Test tasks: 1. Find the best product in the North in March (3 clicks). 2. Compare two regions (4 clicks). 3. Clear all filters (1 click). Tooltips are written as sentences, for example 'North: 1,240 orders in March, up 8 percent on February.'
