A layout template: (a) task and success criteria first; (b) documents in clearly delimited sections with titles and IDs; (c) the questions after the documents or both before and after; (d) output format; (e) a reminder of the rules at the end. Explain why instructions placed at both ends can help for long inputs. 2. How to label documents (for example <doc id="1" title="Contract A">...</doc>) and require citations by id and section. 3. Techniques when the material is too long: extract relevant sections first; summarize each document in a structured way and then compare; use a retrieval step to find passages; chunk by headings and process in steps; keep a running notes list. 4. Quality checks: ask for quotes, ask for "not found" when information is absent, run a second pass to check for contradictions, and test whether it uses information from the middle of the text (not just the start and end) by asking questions whose answers sit in the middle. 5. Privacy and security cautions about uploading confidential documents to services; use approved tools and remove sensitive data. 6. An example filled-in layout for a task such as comparing two policies. Mention that behavior differs across tools, so test.
