Check the quality of a table I have just cleaned in Excel. Before and after facts: row counts, blanks per key column, duplicates removed, columns split or merged: [BEFORE_AFTER_FACTS]. Ten rows from the original and the same ten after cleaning: [SAMPLE_COMPARISON]. Totals of numeric columns before and after: [TOTALS]. Check that the row count difference equals the rows I removed on purpose (show the arithmetic), that totals are unchanged unless rows were removed, that no value changed meaning (a code that lost leading zeros, a date with swapped day and month, a name changed by case rules), that key columns are all filled, and that duplicates were removed by the right key. Look for typical damage: numbers turned into text, shifted dates, truncated values and lookups that now fail. Rate each check pass, concern or fail with the evidence. Return a table with Check, Evidence, Result and Fix, then the three riskiest columns to spot-check by hand and how many rows to check to be reasonably confident. Base everything on my numbers and say what cannot be judged from the samples I gave.
