Diary Study and Field Method Design Check
Check burden, prompts and analysis for longitudinal studies.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Audit a diary or field study plan. Plan text: [STUDY_PLAN]. Duration and number of participants: [DURATION_AND_NUMBERS]. Check the burden per entry, clarity of prompts, reminders, onboarding, tools, attrition planning, privacy of photos and recordings, and the analysis method. Estimate total entries and analysis time with arithmetic. Return a table of risks with fixes, a revised prompt set of five questions, and an attrition plan with an over-recruitment percentage. Add a worked burden estimate: 20 participants, 14 days, one entry a day of 3 minutes, so 20 x 14 = 280 entries and 14 hours of participant time in total; analysis at 5 minutes per entry would take 280 x 5 = 1,400 minutes or 23 hours. Plan attrition: recruit 25 to keep 20 if 20 percent drop out. Ask whether fewer entries or a shorter study would answer the question. Add a short closing step: pilot the diary prompts with two people for two days, check that entries take under three minutes, and revise anything that confused them before the main study begins.
