Slack Channel Sprawl and Purpose Audit
Find dead, duplicate and unclear channels.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Audit our Slack channels using this list: channel name, description, public or private, member count, created date, last message date, messages in the last 30 days: [CHANNEL_LIST]. Our naming rules and archive rule: [RULES]. Calculate the total channels, the share with no messages in 90 days, channels with fewer than three members, channels with no description, channels breaking the naming rule, and probable duplicates by comparing names and descriptions, with arithmetic and counts, grouped by owner team if the list shows it. Add a monthly view of the ten most and least active channels and what it suggests. Return a table with Channel, Issue, Evidence, Recommended action (keep, rename, merge, archive) and Who to ask, justifying each action with the data and marking low-confidence suggestions. Do not archive a private channel without its owner's agreement, and treat channels used for legal or HR reasons as out of scope unless I say otherwise. Archiving keeps history and can be reversed [VERIFY for our plan]. Include a 60-minute clean-up plan, the announcement message, and questions for owners.
