Audit reconciliation status. For each account: statement balance, Xero balance, number of unreconciled statement lines, oldest unreconciled date, and transactions awaiting review: [STATUS]. Today's date: [TODAY]. Lines cleared per hour: [LINES_PER_HOUR].

Calculate total backlog lines, the age of the oldest item, the share of accounts up to date, and time to clear (backlog lines divided by lines per hour: 640 lines at 80 an hour is 8 hours), stating assumptions. Rank accounts by risk, not only backlog size: accounts feeding sales tax or VAT returns, payroll or loan covenants go first. Worked catch-up: four two-hour sessions with 20 matches spot-checked at the end of each; priority the sales tax account, then the main bank account, then cards. Quality checks while catching up: don't rely on suggested matches without checking, review rules that create wrong matches, and ask the accountant when a pattern of unusual items appears. Say what to do with the oldest items that cannot be explained (a five-minute rule). Provide a log (date, lines cleared, issues found, questions for the accountant), a table and a prevention routine of a weekly 30-minute session. Where a tax or accounting rule might apply, it varies by place and goes on my list for the accountant [VERIFY].
